Hemp-Style

After a forced stop dictated by the Covid-19 restrictive measures, September is preparing to be a month full of events for the hemp sector. Conferences, seminars, trade fairs and discussions on the wide-ranging topic await not only professionals in the sector, but also enthusiasts and the curious, in various locations across the country.

HempForum 2022

It starts immediately with CANAPAFORUM2022, the international conference entirely dedicated to industrial and therapeutic hemp that will be held in Naples from 6 to 10 September.

This second edition (the first one was held in 2018) is organised by Federcanapa (Italian Hemp Federation) and SIRCA (Italian Cannabis Research Society) and in collaboration with EIHA (European Industrial Hemp Association), Fracta Sativa, Uni Canapa and Legambiente has a rich and intense programme of events, where conferences on industrial and therapeutic hemp, seminars, training courses and the exhibition of innovative products follow one another over the five days.

I would particularly like to point out, as scheduled, a day almost entirely dedicated to textile hemp, namely Wednesday, 07 September, where after the institutional greetings, market leaders will talk about quality fibre for textile hemp, in particular about its prospects but also about more technical aspects such as cultivation, harvesting and maceration. An Italian project of excellence, the Campana Hemp Fibre Project, will also be presented.

Then, after a lunch break, further technical aspects related to technical fibre, hemp and potential markets will be discussed, concluding in the late afternoon with aspects related to the first processing of hemp and related experiences in Italy and Europe.

The conference continues on Thursday, 8 September and Friday, 9 September, where the focus will be on the hemp seed and flower, and then later on the legislative sphere.

For lovers of textiles and their evolution, the most interesting day will be Wednesday 7 September, which I urge you not to miss! Cost for individuals is 150.00 + 22% VAT.

FILO Exhibition

A less specialised trade fair on hemp is the Filo Exhibition, to be held in Milan on 15 and 16 September. I would like to point out immediately that this is not an event entirely dedicated to textile hemp, but as it is also the 58th edition, Filo is the meeting point of excellence and on an international scale dedicated to the highest quality yarns, some exhibitors also offer hemp yarns. There will also be a sector dedicated to current trends and therefore new products, as well as the 'quick delivery' part where yarns in stock can be purchased directly from the manufacturers.

At the end of the first day, an appointment not to be missed is the Filo Happending round table, a moment of debate and direct involvement with the insala audience.

CANNABIS - Legal and medicinal!

For those who would also like to learn more about the medicinal side of hemp, the annual medical cannabis conference will be held in Bolzano on 17 September. The conference is organised by the Bolzano Cannabis Social Club, an association set up by patients to promote the culture of medical cannabis in the Bolzano region. This year's theme is related to the ancient remedy between conventional medicine and the free market and focuses on the following topics: CBD Cannabidiol, terpenes, phytocomplex and entourage effect, the therapeutic benefits of CBD, cannabis preparations and CBD products for free sale, and concludes with a discussion on the legal aspects and the difficulty in drafting proposals for the ministry.
